Statement of Faith and Practice
1. Nature of GOD: There is ONE GOD, manifest to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He created ALL things, sustains ALL life, and is the Father of ALL humankind. And HE is the Redeemer and Judge of every man, woman, and child (Genesis 1:26; John 1; Matthew 28:19; Isaiah 48:17; Revelation 20:11-15). Monotheism in Christianity is divided into two rival beliefs.
One is the belief that GOD is a "single" Being. The other belief is that "GOD is one, yet TRIUNE in nature" ~ three PERSONS who are one in the Divine GODHEAD. "For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and GODHEAD" (Romans 1:18-21; Acts 17:29-31). "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in HIM dwelleth all the fulness of the GODHEAD bodily" (Colossians 2:8-9).
Bible-based believers hold to the latter view that "GOD is one, yet TRIUNE in nature" (Godhead or Trinity). Some calling themselves Christians reject this orthodox Bible doctrine. We believe ... "GOD is one, yet TRIUNE in nature" to be the only clear and coherent view of GOD's nature possible from Genesis to Revelation. "In the beginning GOD ('Elohiym {el-o-heem'} plural intensive - singular meaning; "GOD" noun is also masculine plural absolute) created the heaven and the earth" (Genesis 1:1). "And GOD said, Let US (plural singular) make man ("Adam" noun is a masculine singular absolute homonym, meaning collectively "people" but mostly it means a "single man" or "person") in Our image, after Our likeness" (Genesis 1:26).
2. Who is Messiah: JESUS (Jehovah is salvation) CHRIST (Anointed One, SON of GOD) is Messiah. "Emmanuel" ~ “GOD with us” ~ fully Divine and fully human (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23). He was and is the GOD-man who came and taught us by His life, His words and His works. HE died for ALL on the cross. Jesus demonstrated GOD’s love for us and defeated the power of death, while atoning for ALL our sins.
JESUS CHRIST alone is the source of ALL things given to us by GOD (John 14:6; Acts 4:12). The CROSS or "Christ crucified" is the only means by which we receive ALL things from GOD (1 Corinthians 1:17-18, 23-24; 2:2). Therefore, "Christ crucified" ... and the Cross ... MUST remain the FOCUS of every believer's faith (Colossians 2). "But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world (Galatians 6:14).
1 Corinthians 1:17-18, 23-24, "For Christ sent me (Paul the apostle) not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God ... But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumbling block, and unto the Greeks foolishness; But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God."
JESUS now prays for us. HE, not Mary, is our “Intercessor” before our Heavenly Father (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23; Hebrews 7:25; Romans 8:34). GOD's Word clearly teaches that we are NOT to pray to Mary or any other saint in Heaven. We are to pray to "Our FATHER" in "JESUS' Name" – period (Luke 11). "For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and Him crucified (1 Corinthians 2:2).
3. The Holy Spirit: He is GOD-in-us, "Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are ... And ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's" (1 Cor. 3:16-17, 23). The Holy Spirit empowers the believer and church today ~ right this very moment! And HE works TOTALLY within the parameters of the FINISHED work of JESUS CHRIST - period! (1 Corinthians 1:20-31)
He will NOT work outside these parameters. Every believer MUST understand and live by "GOD's Prescribed Order of Victory" to overcome and be successful in GOD's will TODAY (Romans 6-8; 12:1-2; Revelation 12:10-11; Joshua 1:8). When our faith is properly placed, He is the ONE who will empower us and enables ALL we say and do (Roman 8). HE does this "in the same way" as Jesus (Hebrews 5:8-10; Acts 1:1-5). The Holy Spirit also gives gifts of grace to ALL Christians, in order to glorify God and serve others.
ALL the spiritual gifts available in the New Testament are available to the Church TODAY, until Christ returns (1 Corinthians 12-14; Romans 12; Ephesians 4). As Christians defer to and serve one another, they should also equip one another to minister these "gifts of grace" through "faith working by love" (Galatians 5). The saints should exercise greater public ministry ONLY as they remain faithful, develop in biblical wisdom, and mature in godly character (Luke 16:10-12; Proverbs 1-ff; 1 Corinthians 13).
4. What is Love: GOD is love (1 John 1:8). And, love is the “greatest force in the world” (1 Corinthians 13). It must motivate ALL that we do and say. Laws and constitutions may be necessary because we are human and sinful, but humanism and religious "legalism" sows death in any community. We must commit to being ministers of “grace and truth in love” with one another, thereby promoting harmony within His church (John 1). And, go from the local church to our neighbours and "unto to the ends of the earth" (Matthew 28:16-20). Though we were created in the “image and likeness” of GOD, we are now affected by our sinfulness (Genesis 1-3). Yet, “God-likeness” can be manifest through us by Christ's grace, truth, and love (Ephesians 2; Mark 12:29-31). Eternal thanks to GOD for sending the "Last Adam" (1 Corinthians 15:45).
5. The Holy Bible: GOD's inspired Word (plenary verbal inspiration) and the preserved revelation of HIS Word is for everyone (2 Timothy 3:16-17; Psalm 12:6-7). JESUS CHRIST is the “Living Word” with us (Matthew 1:23). And, Holy Scripture is HIS GOD~breathed "Holy Writ" for us today (John 1). “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). The Holy Bible is our FINAL authority for ALL of life, Christian belief and practice. The language of Holy Scripture is generally of three kinds: 1) Literal; 2) Figurative; 3) Symbolic.
Figurative language is like, “you are the salt of the earth” and is explained within the context. Symbolic language is like, “And He had in His right hand seven stars: and out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword” and is explained by context and/or in other passages of the Bible (e.g. Revelation 1:16, Hebrews 4:12).
Literal language is like God's command, “You shall not steal." It is to be understood as it is clearly written (Exodus 20). Any translation of the Bible should accurately express the literal meaning of the original text. We recommend Bible translations based only on the Traditional and Preserved Text, not the Critical Text. The Traditional or Masoretic Text (Hebrew) for the Old Testament and the Textus Receptus (TR) or Received Text (Greek) for the New Testament, is used in Bibles like the King James Bible or King James Version Easy Read (KJB/KJVER).
We should prayerfully read the Holy Bible. It is not like any other book! Let God reveal the meaning of the text without allegorizing (making it fictional) or “spiritualizing the text” out of context. In other words, “rightly divide the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). Literal Bible text is to be understood by: 1) the normal or usual construction of the words and language grammar; 2) the plain or ordinary sense of a passage; 3) the natural and historical meaning of the words within their context.
Many perpetuate the myth that “fundamentalists” and other Christians believe every word of the Bible to be literal in an improper manner. They may do this by establishing an incorrect definition and application of Bible interpretation. Then, some may impose false interpretations on Christians. This unethical strategy may be demonstrated by the false claims made by secular humanists and others against Biblical Christianity. Their false message -“The normal interpretation of Scripture is wrong!"
However, the literal understanding of Scripture does NOT ignore figures of speech, symbols, or types in their context. Sound Bible study always makes distinctions between figurative and literal language. A literal understanding of Bible passages recognizes the essential value of attention to words and proper grammar. Furthermore, a literal understanding of truth is never an unimaginative or dogmatic method. It is always a Spirit-led dynamic enabled by GOD (1 John 2:18-29).
As well, it is a principled approach that helps one to accurately “divide the word of truth.” We must always approach GOD’s Word with integrity and prayer and humility. Only GOD can give us light! Remember, heresies arise when we add or subtract from Scripture or when we "clarify" GOD’s Word with human bias or deception (Eve and Adam). Furthermore, we must not allow minor issues of doctrine to divide us. What unites true Christians is far greater than what separates us!
Be aware that some would say that it’s wrong to follow the normal and literal study of Bible language. Yet, they'll follow these same rules and principles to define language in their “normal study” of the literal passages found in literature. This is called a double standard or hypocrisy! For believers, the ultimate and only source of truth is GOD’s Word. Therefore, we recognize the literal understanding as normal and proper reading in context.
Secular humanists and others may reject GOD’s Word as revealed and ultimate Truth. And therefore may not accept a normal and literal understanding of The Holy Bible. In other words, they do not accept a proper interpretation of the Bible. In their thinking, a Christ-centered worldview and literal interpretation of the Bible must be rejected. They must somehow justify their position and deny any accountability to GOD and His inerrant Word to them!
A vital question remains, “Is the literal approach essential to read and study most Bible passages?” Is the Bible true? This conversation revolves around whether GOD or human reason is the ultimate test of truth. “What is truth?” This issue is about whether the Bible is Divinely inspired and Divinely preserved, and accurately translated in your language. Can the Bible be regarded as GOD’s inerrant and infallible rule for faith and practice? Or, must we rely on human reason alone? Can we depend on it - 100%? YES!
What people often challenge is whether the Bible is GOD’s revelation to mankind. Therefore, we must emphasize that the most important foundation for “faith and practice” is the inspiration, inerrant, preservation and authority of ALL Holy Scripture. For Christians, the authority of the Holy Bible makes ALL the other fundamentals of "The Faith" credible.
Believers derive ALL their convictions about truth from the teaching of Holy Scripture, not from a narrow outlook or partisan feelings and human tradition (Colossians 2:6-23). The controversy is between opposing worldviews. Here’s the most important question everyone must answer, “Is Jesus, The Christ, and the Holy Bible our final authority?” (Psalm 2; John 1; 14:6) Indeed, “Are we accountable to GOD?”
Matthew 4:4, "But He (Jesus) answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by EVERY WORD that proceedeth out of the mouth of GOD."
6. What is Worship: It is everything we do for the “glory of GOD” in our homes, jobs, schools, activities or church gatherings. JESUS should be worshiped at ALL times, as LORD of ALL that we are and do! "In HIM we live, and move, and have our being." Our lives and worship gatherings ought to acknowledge these biblical realities: 1) led and anointed by GOD's Spirit; 2) CHRIST-centered by knowing and obeying GOD’s Word; 3) we may be sacramental, but without human tradition that makes God's Word of no affect (John 4).
We should do EVERYTHING with biblical excellence! We do want to honour GOD ... second best won't do! Yes to simplicity and sincerity. However, a lack of seeking excellence will not attract GOD or others! The LORD seeks "worshipers in Spirit and in truth," not church attendees who "do worship" without humble obedience during the week (John 4:23-26; Philippians 2:8; Luke 9:23-26).
7. Fellowship: Biblical fellowship is based on our new covenant relationship through Christ in genuine community ~ love for GOD and for one other (1 John 1:1-3; Mark 12:29-31). It is in biblical fellowship that we'll often experience the manifestation and release of our spiritual gifts and the meeting of human need because we are the BODY of Christ (1 Corinthians 12-14). There are more than thirty (30) "one anothers" in the Bible that can only be experienced in true fellowship. The goal of ALL fellowship is to encourage, to edify, and to minister "one to another." Our local church is known as "Hosanna! Toronto Christian International Fellowship" (TCIF) or Hosanna Church. Our blessed biblical "Hosanna logo" with three crosses is at the top left and throughout this site.
JESUS still sends the gifts of apostles, prophets, evangelists, and pastor-teachers for the "equipping the saints" for "their work of the ministry" to build up the Body of Christ (Colossians 1:28-29; Ephesians 4:11-16). However, the entire Church is to be pastoral, priestly, and prophetic. In principle, pastoral ministry and visitation is to be done by ALL to ALL. “Spiritual sacrifices” are to be offered to GOD by the whole Church (Romans 12:1-20). Indeed, we must ALL speak and minister for GOD in Christ and in the world.
8. Discipleship: This is a Spirit-led and dynamic process whereby we completely trust in "CHRIST crucified" and follow HIM by obeying His Words (1 Cor. 2:2; Gal. 2:20; 2 Tim. 3:14-17; Col. 2:6-12; John 14-15). GOD’s Word is understood and applied by GOD’s Spirit within our heart, mind, and every aspect of our lives (Eph. 1-6). In this sanctification process, we become "like GOD" (2 Cor. 3:17-18). Every Christian should belong to a biblical and local group of believers to nurture this disciple~SHIFT in real life (Hebrew 10:25). Mature Christians should mentor younger Christians (Acts 20:20-21). And remember, it is GOD’s power that will multiply and sustain GOD's vision through “faithful disciples”(2 Timothy 2:2). See the importance of “One Soul” below.
9. Body of Christ: We can experience the joy and love of GOD through fellowship with His BODY – ALL "true believers" are GOD’s Family (1 Peter 2:17). We are His children and disciples first, but we're also CALLED to be faithful members of Hosanna church, as GOD directs. We follow JESUS CHRIST! And HE commands that the acceptance and care of others takes precedence over man-made practices and ordinances. We ought to unreservedly accept into full fellowship and membership ALL whom GOD has accepted (Romans 15:7). And, as GOD directs, we are to cooperate with ALL who acknowledge Jesus Christ as GOD, but ONLY as they believe according to Holy Scripture ... without compromise of His TRUTH!
10. Our Mission: Simply put, the Gospel of the Kingdom … to do in our world what Jesus Christ and the early church did in their world, not just in words, but in the demonstration of the power of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 2; John 20:21); giving mercy and care to others; ministering to others at the point of their openness and need; evangelism or sharing and proclaiming the Good News about JESUS in word, deed, and truth; calling people to repentance and faith in JESUS CHRIST alone (Acts 4:12; John 14:6); walking humbly before GOD and others (John 20:21, Matthew 23:23, Luke 11:42, Micah 6:8); by works of biblical justice in all areas of society - serving the powerless (pastoral) and rebuking the oppressors (prophetic).
11. His Followers: As followers of JESUS CHRIST, we affirm HIS Lordship over HIS Church and ALL nations (Psalm 2:8): i) that is, the dominion and authority of GOD and HIS Word over ALL human endeavour; ii) over a regenerate “born-again” church membership; iii) over the water baptism of believers by immersion; iv) over freedom of conscience in matters of religious belief; for example, Psalm 72:8 ~ CANADA's founding Scripture from the Holy Bible; (2 Timothy 3:16-17; Matthew 28:1-20; John 3; Romans 1-7). Followers or disciples of JESUS are in "fellowship" with others and are NOT to be found MIA or Missing-In-Action.
Hebrews 10:23-27, "Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for He is faithful that promised;) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries."
12. Governance: New Testament churches may have several modes of local and trans-local government: 1) Apostolic and pastoral leadership with episcopal responsibilities and authority; they are general overseers or biblical bishops (Ephesians 4:11-16; Acts 15:1-6; 1 Corinthians 12:27-31; Hebrews 13:17-18; 1 Timothy 3; 4:22; Titus). They are servant leaders and shepherds of God’s flock, but they also have disciplinary powers (Romans 16:17-20; 1 Corinthians 5; Matthew 18:15-18); they prayerfully chose their ministry associates; 2) Local churches are also served and governed by a group of elders or presbytery (Acts 16:1-5; Titus 1; James 5:14-15; 1 Peter 5; 1 Timothy 5:17-ff; 4:14); 3) Deacons or deaconesses and other specific ministries also served (1 Timothy 3; Philippians 1:1; Romans 16:1-2); 4) The entire congregation of the saints owns GOD's vision and mission for the local fellowship and trans-local Church (1 Cor. 1; Col. 1). There are NO spectators in HIS Fellowship (1 John 1; 1 Cor. 12-14; Romans 12).
13. One Blood: In Jesus Christ, and in our biology, there is only “One Blood” ~ “One Race” (Acts 17:26). Unjust divisions between social groupings and the sexes were abolished in CHRIST (Galatians 3:28). Mediterranean cultures in the early years of the church limited discrimination (e.g. slavery, sexism). And, the early apostles rightly avoided scandalizing those cultures.
Yet, in our times, we have often created a scandal by hindering or not allowing women to fully exercise the ministry for which GOD has gifted them. Normally, men are initiative-takers and women are more willing to be submissive, but GOD is not a legalist! He allowed Deborah to lead His entire covenant community of Israel. In the New Testament, many women are named as deacons, prophetesses, perhaps even apostle; “fellow-workers in the gospel” (Book of Acts, Romans).
14. The Lord’s Supper: Is a symbolic expression of our "like precious faith" shared together in HIM. Thereby, we can experience the biblical benefits of our CHRIST crucified for US. It is also a memorial of HIS suffering, death, and a clear prophecy of HIS Second Coming. As well, it is a time to examine ourselves "judge ourselves" that "we should NOT be judged" (1 Corinthians 11:23-31).
15. One Soul: If you reach [1] soul a year and teach them to reach [1} soul a year. Then, if each [1] subsequently disciples [1] soul a year, this process will yield (9) billion souls reached in (30) years. This is the power of one voice, one life – your life and voice – shining in the darkness! However, if we had daily outreach events wherein (100) souls a day were converted for (30) years straight ... only (11) million people would be reached.
Are you willing to be that one voice for Jesus Christ? Are you willing to unlock your fears and let GOD’s love empower your life?
This is the power of 2 Timothy 2:2. Paul understood the power of "one faithful disciple." You can be that one faithful disciple that changes the world!
Let's incorporate the “power of one” into our church vision. And, let's practically equips every saint for this ministry (Matthew 28:16-20). Herein is your minimal faith goal ~ Reach and disciple [1] soul every year. And, equip them to do the same. Are you ready to shine in the darkness for JESUS ...
It’s daybreak if YOU only believe! Shine for JESUS today!
"And GOD said, Let US (plural singular) make man ("Adam" noun is a masculine singular absolute homonym, meaning collectively "people" but mostly it means a "single man" or "person") in Our image, after Our likeness" (Genesis 1:26).

1 Corinthians 1:17-18, 23-24, "For Christ sent me (Paul the apostle) not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
