Biblical Understanding of Tornadoes
First, we need to go to God’s Word and understand the “whirlwind".
Jeremiah 3:19-24 “Behold a whirlwind of the Lord has gone forth in fury – A violent whirlwind! It will fall violently on the head of the wicked. The anger of the Lord will not turn back; Until He has executed and performed the thoughts of His heart. In the latter days you will understand it perfectly. I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran. I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied. But if they had stood in My counsel, and had caused My people to hear My words, then they would have returned them from their evil way; And from the evil of their doings. “Am I a God near at hand,” says the Lord, “And not a God afar off? Can anyone hide himself in secret places, so I shall not see Him?” Says the Lord; “Do I not fill heaven and earth?”
Jeremiah 25:31-32 “A noise will come to the ends of the earth – For the Lord has a controversy with the nations; He will plead His case with all flesh. He will give those who are wicked to the sword”, Says the Lord. Thus says the Lord of Hosts: “Behold, disaster shall go forth From nation to nation, And a great whirlwind shall be raised up. From the farthest parts of the earth."
Depending on the response of God’s people some judgments can be averted:
Isaiah 66:20-22 “Then they shall bring all your brethren for an offering to the lord out of all nations, on horses and in chariots and in litters, on mules and on camels, to My Holy mountain Jerusalem,” Says the Lord; “As the children of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of the Lord. “And I will also take some of them for priests and Levites,” Says the Lord. “For as the new heavens and the new earth; Which I will make shall remain before Me,” Says the Lord, “So shall your descendants and your name remain”.
Proverbs 10:25 “When the whirlwind passes by, the wicked is no more, But the righteous has an everlasting foundation.
The Scriptures declare that a whirlwind deals with the wicked and leaves the righteous with a sure foundation.
Nahum 1:1-3 “The burden against Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite. God is jealous, and the Lord avenges; The Lord avenges and is furious. The Lord will take vengeance on His adversaries, and He reserves wrath for His enemies; The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked. The Lord has His way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of His feet.”
The Lord will have His way in the whirlwind and in the storm!
